King County Council unanimously voted to approve an ordinance to fund the Doors Open program for nonprofit cultural programs and the arts. This results in a sales tax increase of 0.1% raising the new sales tax rate to 10.35%. This increase is expected to generate $100 million a year and can be used for a wide range of cultural purposes such as arts in public schools. This sales tax increase begins in April 2024 and lasts seven years.
