About our Student of the Month, as submitted by Woodinville High School:
Esh Sathiamoorthy is a model student at Woodinville High School, not only in terms of academics and his enthusiasm for learning, but also due to his remarkable character and leadership skills. With an ever-present smile, Esh shows his true colors on a daily basis around our campus. As our ASB president, he “walks his talk” pursuing opportunities to make a positive difference at Woodinville and within the Northshore community; an example being Esh’s participation as the lone student representative on the District Equity and Diversity Committee since October of 2017. Not stopping there, this past March Esh started the NSD Youth Equity Group, a committee of high school students that pinpoint inequities in the district and work to brainstorm and implement solutions that benefit all students.
While following through with his commitments, Esh maintains high expectations for himself and others. This is evidenced by his academic pursuits alongside his continuous involvement in our leadership program where he garnered the respect of his peers. Scholastically Esh has taken a rigorous and balanced course of studies. He has maintained a broad base of interests and immersed himself in many different educational opportunities. While including subjects such as AP Biology, AP World History, AP Calculus AB, AP Chemistry, AP English Language, AP US History, and a multitude of other Pre and Advanced Placement courses in his schedule, Esh has earned a 4.00 GPA.
With a passion for literature, as well as science, Esh has excelled in the PTA Reflections Art Program, most recently earning the 1st place award for literature in the State competition. With respect to science, he founded the science education program known as “Northwest Science Academy” in February 2015. The academy is aimed at inspiring elementary and middle school students to find a genuine love and curiosity for learning science. Within the academy, Esh has developed and taught fun, interactive science curriculum, including project work, lab work, science buzzer games, and team-based competitions for, currently, 35 students.
Furthermore, Esh somehow finds additional time to make the difference in the lives of others, volunteering at: EvergreenHealth Medical Center helping with the discharge of patients; the UW Bioengineering Outreach Program conducting scientific demonstrations; the North Sound Foundation Regional Bee proctoring competitions; and, since 2015, the King County Library System in Bothell as a teen volunteer.
